Run your own Fundraising Event!Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind works with many individuals, organisations, and community groups across the local area to put on events. Fundraising through events can be great fun and TOG Mind are here to help you develop your event ideas, promote your events and fundraise safely.

TOG Mind want to help you get started and inspire you to create fun, exciting events that you can share with your friends, family, colleagues and local community.

We have had great success helping individuals, organisations and community groups across the local area with fundraising; including:

  • Helping First Choice Homes Oldham put on a Fire Walk to contribute towards their staggering target of £15,000.

  • Arranging a bag pack with NCS students at Asda to raise £568.38 in one day.

  • Supporting runner, Kelly Smith, at the Great Manchester run to reach £220 in sponsorship.

We love getting involved with passionate and active groups who are keen to use their skills to help raise vital funds for mental health services in their local community. So, if you think you, your group or workplace are well placed to put on a fundraising event and offer additional support to TOG Mind, then you can learn more below.

Events with your organisation

Events with your organisationPutting on an event within your workplace can be an excellent opportunity to not only fundraise for TOG Mind but also to build a great relationship with other colleagues and provide a fun social for everyone to get involved with. Some ideas include:

  • Baking competition (release your inner Mary Berry and give out prizes for the best bakes!)

  • Quiz or game show style event

  • Dress down day

  • Clothing Swap-Shop

  • Name the teddy

  • Leg wax or head shave

Events with your family and friends

Events with your family and friendsFamily and friends are a great source of support when you are planning an event or want to organise something fun to raise money for TOG Mind. You can easily leave out a collection bucket, which we can provide you with, or hold a raffle that people can purchase tickets for.

You could try throwing:

  • A Family fun day – face painting, skittles and other fun games

  • A BBQ or fete, a chance to get on your apron and get cooking!

Events with your community

Your community is such a valuable resource when planning an event! Not only does it give you access to a much wider group of guests, but it gives you the opportunity to meet new people and build on the community spirit whilst also raising money for TOG Mind! Some ideas include:

  • Bag packing in your local supermarket

  • Holding a gala evening

  • Christmas concert/carol singing

When planning an event in your local area, think about what resources or relationships you already have that you could use to make your event a success.

For example, do you know someone who works at a local venue? See if they could get you a slot! You might even find that they offer you the venue for a reduced price or free when you mention that you are raising funds for TOG Mind.

Where to start

There are so many different types of events that you can organise and these could range from a small family BBQ all the way through to a Christmas concert within your community! Here are some things to consider:

  • Remember to look for the talents in your team and play to your strengths – organising an event should be fun and a good opportunity to get to know each other better!

  • Look to time your events to coincide with major national events such as Halloween, National Mental Health Day or a sporting event like Wimbledon – people will be more likely to get on board and donate at these times!

  • When you have selected your chosen events and created a calendar, tell the team at TOG Mind! We can offer support with: organisation of events; provide collection buckets and get you TOG Mind t-shirts!

Case Studies

First Choice Homes Oldham Fire Walk

During 2016/17 we were kindly supported by First Choice Homes Oldham who raised a staggering £15,000 for TOG Mind.

We helped to organise a Fire Walk evening where staff, friends, and the community raised £4,500 in sponsorship money. The money raised is being used to pilot a new project for supporting families in Oldham.

This was an amazing achievement for FCHO and an incredibly successful event for everyone involved!
