Charity of the YearTameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind work with organisations and community groups across the local area but sometimes these groups will choose to form a Charity of the Year (COTY) relationship with us. This means that the business or community group will fundraise for TOG Mind for the entire year, putting on events, completing challenges, and promoting the messages of our charity.

COTY relationships are an excellent opportunity to work together to help each other, and can significantly improve staff and member team building by encouraging them to work together to support our fantastic course.

We have had great success over the past few years working with organisations like First Choice Homes Oldham, Boots Ashton, Marks and Spencers Ashton, Last Resort Motorcycle Club, and the Saddleworth Ladies fundraising committee. We have been able to offer lots of mental health training and support to our fantastic fundraisers.

We love getting involved with passionate and active groups who are keen to use their skills to help raise vital funds for mental health services in their local community.

So, if you think your group or workplace are well placed to offer additional support to TOG Mind, then you can find out some more information below.

Creating a Charity of the Year Partnership

There are many ways you can get involved with a Charity of the Year relationship, and we build relationships with community groups and corporate groups.

We have some fantastic ongoing relationships with local businesses, large or small. Some organisations, such as supermarkets and high street retailers allow the local community to select a charity for their store through a voting process, usually on their website. It’s always worth taking a look at whether you can nominate us as a Charity of the Year. Follow us on Social Media to find out when these nominations and votes are happening.

If you work for a company that you think could support TOG Mind you could nominate us as your Charity of the Year. Our team will be happy to help you create a pitch for why your company should support us or offer advice on getting your colleagues on board. We are always keen to work with other organisations and are happy to offer additional training for your team in order to support the mental health in your workplace.

We also work closely with community groups, who choose us as their Charity of the Year. We have worked with Last Resort Motorcycle Club, Rotary clubs, WI groups, and are currently being supported by Saddleworth Ladies Fundraising Committee. If you run a group or society and are looking to support a charity then we'd love to hear from you!

What we can offer

What we can offerWe work very closely with our partners who choose us as a Charity of the Year and have made some very positive relationships. But we know it can sometimes be a bit daunting, and to help you we provide a wide variety of support including:

  • Helping to write pitches for promoting the key messages of Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind to both your colleagues and members of the public

  • Helping you to set an achievable target for the year and working with you to create a plan of action which will help you to hit, and even exceed that target

  • Attending regular meetings to offer advice and suggestions

  • Providing merchandise such as t-shirts, buckets, signs, balloons, bunting, certificates and other support for any relevant events or activities

  • Assistance in promoting the work that you are doing through our media contacts; social media, newspapers and radio

We can also offer additional training and support for colleagues and members of the team with their mental health and general wellbeing.

Previous Success - First Choice Homes Oldham

First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) supported Tameside Oldham and Glossop (TOG) Mind as their Charity of the Year between April 2016 - 2017. Over the course of the 12 months, the organisation held a variety of events to fundraise; including baking competitions, a sponsored head shave, raffles, tombolas, a canal walk, a sky dive as well as getting involved in an incredible TOG Mind Firewalk!

Colleagues set themselves the target of raising £10,000 for the local charity and in March they exceeded that goal by reaching a total of £15,000.

The money raised by FCHO is currently being used to pilot a scheme to work with families around Oldham. Supporting individuals with their mental health is vitally important, and this new scheme will expand this care of individuals to offer support to both the individual and their families. The project aims to help maintain a healthy home environment by providing support, mediation and counselling to whole families. It is hoped that a successful pilot will lead to a larger scale service across Oldham.

Cath Green, CEO of FCHO had this to say;

“We have had a great year of fundraising with TOG Mind. We have raised £15,000 through the hard work and generosity of our colleagues and partner agencies for this fantastic charity. Knowing that the money we have raised will go back into help local communities and families is not only important to us as an organisation but means that the people of Oldham will be able to benefit from the efforts of the fundraising we have been a part of”.
