Families in Mind is an exciting service that we can deliver to the full family. If you are starting to struggle with things such as communication, conflicts and sharing difficult emotions, this service aims to help you to work on these issues, set goals and move towards them. Through talking, activities, games and engaging worksheets the practitioner will help you and your family to explore difficulties and come up with solutions.

If you and your family would like to book an appointment you can call us on 0161 330 9223.

We are now running this service in:

  • Ashton (216-218 Katherine Street)

  • Glossop (Glossop Primary Care Centre)

  • Oldham (Positive Steps)

The appointments are at various times throughout the week so call us to find a suitable slot.

Wednesday 10th July 2019

Stalybridge Civic Hall, 4:00 - 6pm

This event was to celebrate the great work done throughout this academic year with schools that are part of the PSHE Primary Network. Charlotte Lee from Population Health presented a PowerPoint of all the initiatives that are going on in our schools including our own Wellbeing Consultancy Project which has reached over 60 schools through cluster training and one-to-one support since it began in May 2017.

The Primary PSHE Network is held termly and brings together Primary school PSHE Leads from across Tameside to share good practice and learn of new initiatives across the borough. It also provides a great networking forum to make new contacts and build understanding around Health and Wellbeing.

To learn more about the work we do in schools and with young people, please visit the Youth in Mind section of our website.

When IKEA picked us as their charity of the year we had no idea staff would help raise £500 for us within the first few weeks!

We’ve been even more surprised recently with their generosity in volunteering time to help paint our counselling rooms and provide a range of stock to make these spaces feel much more comfortable. Our counselling rooms and waiting area feel so fresh and welcoming and the addition of new furniture, lamps, pictures, cushions and throws has created a relaxed vibe everyone appreciates.

The pictures below clearly show all the hard work put in by everyone! Huge thanks to all the IKEA volunteers involved – it’s really made a big difference.

Recently we held a Mental Health Awareness Week Event located at Jigsaw Homes Group.

This year the theme of mental health awareness week was body image – how we think and feel about ourselves. Our Buddy Project Manager Kelly, joined forces with Anne, a volunteer at Tameside Women and their Families Centre to coordinate and deliver an event. Jigsaw Homes Group kindly facilitated this event in their head offices in Ashton under Lyne and offered free refreshments.

In total, 15 organisations attended. These were;

  • Tameside, Oldham & Glossop Mind

  • Tameside Women and their Families Centre

  • Cloverleaf

  • Motiv8

  • Diversity Matters North West

  • Be Well Tameside

  • Action Together

  • TMBC Neighbourhood Services

  • New Life Church

  • Infinity Initiatives

  • Tameside Foodbank East

  • Holy Trinity Church Stalybridge

  • Oasis/Making a Difference

  • CGL (Change, Grow, Live)

  • The Health & Wellbeing College

All organisations ran stalls showcasing what they do and their offer to the local community. There were also lots of activities on offer for the event attendees including free little bags of happiness and a wheel of fortune with TOG Mind, craft cloverleaves with inspirational personal quotes with Cloverleaf, free NHS health checks with Be Tameside, a how are you feeling activity with Active Tameside, free home security resources from TMBC Neighbourhood Services and a beer goggles activity with CGL.

Outcomes of the event were several referrals into services for people to obtain support, professionals invited into other organisation team meetings to promote their service, volunteers recruited for projects, lots of awareness around the theme of mental health and wellbeing in general and awareness around the theme for mental health awareness week 2019 as well as lots of networking between professionals.

We would like to give a big thank you to everyone that took part in the event.

If you would like to get involved in any future events, please contact Kelly Smith at office [at] togmind.org for further information.

TOG Mind’s children and young people Hive service also took part in mental health awareness week 2019 by running self-esteem workshops for 8 - 13 year olds, and with their Bee Creative art session they created a collage around positive body image.

A big thank you to Woodend Studios and Luna Crafts for raising money for Youth in Mind this weekend at their art fair.

Luna Crafts run our Bee Creative session at The Hive each week and we are so thankful for all their hard work. It was lovely to see the artwork created by young people at The Hive on display at the studios!

Woodend Studios is a collection of independent art studios based in a Victorian Cotton Mill in Mossley. Over the weekend they held their spring art fair and very kindly raised money for Youth in Mind. It was lovely to visit the studios and see all the wonderful art work.

Our Community Development Officer Gary has had the pleasure of visiting several of the Housing 21 establishments, after contacting Tejinder Birk, Partnerships Manager.

It was agreed to go along and speak to some of the tenants, initially to see if there would be any interest and value in TOG Mind talking to residents about Mental Health and Wellbeing.

After talking to tenants at School House Flats it was felt that there would definitely be a demand for some TOG Mind interventions, we talked at length about what kind of activity may be a good starting point, and collectively settled on a Mindfulness Taster, mainly because it involved chocolate!

Feedback from all the Courts has been very positive, people found the techniques really useful and felt they would continue to use them to help with their overall wellbeing.
