ChallengesTameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind work with lots of individuals or groups when they look to take on challenges to raise money! This is often through sponsorship from individuals, friends or family! A challenge can be great fun and TOG Mind are here to help you develop your ideas, promote what you’re doing and help you to fundraise.

A challenge can range from a personal goal, like making a target to hit 10,000 steps a day for 10 days all the way through to taking on a marathon or Tough Mudder event!

We love getting involved with enthusiastic, active individuals and groups who are keen to use their passions to help raise vital funds for mental health services in their local community. So, if you think you, your group or workplace are well placed to take on a challenge and offer additional support to TOG Mind then find out some more information below.

What types of challenges are out there?

A challenge could be anything from a personal goal you set yourself through to an organised challenge event already in place, eg; a marathon or Tough Mudder event. Here are some ideas below:

  • Marathon – there is of course the London marathon, or plenty of others take place across the country, why not visit Edinburgh to run along the coast.

  • Tough Mudder – a hardcore obstacle race that takes place over 10-12 miles! Not quite ready for that yet? Try starting out with a gentler 5k race and work up to it!

  • Set a personal goal, e.g. could you promise to take 20,000 steps for 20 days, or how about a month of walking to and from work?

  • Skydiving, abseiling, cycling, or trekking are all other great examples of challenges that take you out of your comfort zones and push your physical and mental resilience to its limit and will encourage friends, family and individuals to sponsor you and help to raise money for TOG Mind.

Things to consider

Taking part in a challenge event is all about pushing yourself but having fun at the same time. Make sure you don’t exceed your limits and plan your challenges with safety at the front of your mind.

  • Ensure you have put in an adequate amount of training for your event, including warming up correctly on the day, drinking plenty of water and having snacks available.

  • Seek advice from the professionals, if you are taking part in an event such as a trek, make sure you have planned a safe route and that the appropriate people know where you are at all times.
