After many great years of running a vegetarian café, following lockdown we have collaborated with members of the community to “co-design” on how best to use this space.
The co-design results indicated more of a community shared space, therefore the Topaz Café will not be reopening, instead we will be launching Communi-tea!
Communi-tea will be a space for varied events for the community to use, including pop up cafes, coffee mornings, and various groups such as knit and natter, mindfulness groups etc. We are currently in the process of designing the space and are seeking funding to change the physical space.
Thank you to all the people that have helped us and thank you to the community who supported Topaz throughout it's lifetime!

Topaz Café is a not-for-profit hub that creates a huge selection of freshly made vegetarian meals at a reasonable price. Let Topaz take care of your lunch while you take care of yourself!
The Hub is a great place to meet, eat and relax, with a freshly made coffee served by our friendly, barista trained staff and volunteers. The Hub also provides a gateway for people to access the huge range of services that Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind has to offer.
What we do at Topaz
Run a healthy vegetarian cafe
Provide opportunities for social interaction (including through the Chatty Cafe Scheme)
Food hygiene training
Microsessions focusing on a huge range of topics for you to learn about
All of our food is made in our commercial kitchen by our qualified and time-served staff and volunteers. The quality of the food is exceptional and is created using ingredients from Fareshare, who deliver food to non-profit organisations (such as ourselves) from supermarkets that would normally be discarded.
We also receive donations from Marks and Spencer's charity partnership program Neighbourly, which is used to help us create various meals. Creating meals is a passion for all the people working in the kitchen and also the staff and volunteers of TOG Mind and while we do offer some staple favourites on our menu, we also create unique meals based on the fresh ingredients we recieve that day, so there is always something new to try at Topaz.
We love to receive recipe ideas from staff and customers which we will use from time to time to offer tasty new meals for you to try. Firm favourites have been some of our delicious currys, pies and a special sprout cake at Christmas (don't knock it til you've tried it!)
Because we make everything at Topaz we can also create delicious food for anyone who is vegan or has food allergies to ingredients like gluten.
Here's some feedback given to us by the lovely Mossley writers:
Because we are a vegetarian café, most of our food is healthy, nutritious and provides a good few of your 5 a day! But for the times you want to treat yourself we also have Topaz Treats, our delicious cakes and bakes that are made freshly to tempt your taste buds.
Taking some time to switch off and nourish your body can be a fantastic mood boost for your mind. We suggest at least 10-30 minutes out of your day to sit, relax, and enjoy good food to take away the many pressures of the day.
Topaz Café and Hub is a meeting, greeting, and calming place to take time for yourself to enjoy a lovely brew and a tasty meal made freshly for you.
