Circle of Control Exercise

  • Grab a sheet of paper and a pen.

  • Draw a big circle.

  • Draw a smaller circle inside of that.

Control CircleMake a list of 5 things that stress you out or make you feel anxious:

4) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

5) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

 

*We understand there’s probably a lot more than 5... but try and focus on these top 5 for now.

 

Now, think about which of those are really within your control and which are outside of your control. Place them on the circles…

 

Can you see that a lot of things are actually out of our control? And really, it’s all about how we perceive them that causes the stress or anxiety we often feel. For example, you might have weather on your list. As the cold, dark nights draw in it can be easy to feel affected! But actually, why not embrace the early evenings? Light some candles, fill your hot water bottle, get cosy and wrap up in your duvet.
